Your smile is important to you, and it’s only natural to want your teeth to be as beautiful as possible. If you’re missing some teeth, you may be a candidate for partial dentures, which can be a great option to help you regain your smile. At NOLA Dentures and General Dentistry, our goal is to give you the confidence to smile and eat any foods you want without worrying about your teeth.
Once you have your partial dentures, you may have questions about how to care for them; here is everything you need to know.
What Are Partial Dentures?
If you have one or more missing teeth, partial dentures are used to replace those teeth so that you can eat normally and regain the aesthetically-pleasing look you want. Partial dentures are removable dental appliances with false teeth secured to an acrylic base. This base is colored to match the color of your gums.
How Do You Care for Partial Dentures?
Once your dentist has properly fitted your partial dentures, you must take good care of them so they will last as long as possible. To clean your partial dentures, follow these steps:
- Remove your partial dentures and rinse them in cold water.
- Using either a dental brush or a soft toothbrush and denture cleaner or non-abrasive toothpaste, carefully brush your partial dentures to remove any food particles. Avoid any products that are abrasive or contain whitening or bleaching agents.
- After you brush them, rinse your dentures with warm water. Avoid hot water.
- Now that they are clean, you need to soak your partial dentures overnight to keep them from drying out and help them maintain their shape; use either water or a denture-soaking solution.
- Before putting your partial dentures back in the following day, rinse them with warm water to remove any denture solution.
- Be sure to clean your mouth carefully after you remove your partial dentures. It is essential that you care for your remaining teeth as well.
