There’s never a good time for a dental emergency, and we know that an emergency can cause stress and anxiety for you or your loved ones. That’s why we offer emergency dentistry at NOLA Dentures and General Dentistry. Because there is a good chance your dental emergency could happen outside of regular business hours, it’s important to know what to do when you break a tooth or experience any other type of dental issue that needs to be addressed as soon as possible.

Types of Dental Emergencies

Many dental emergencies start as minor dental issues, so we encourage you to call our dental office if you notice swelling, a bad taste in your mouth, or any other signs of infection. A minor symptom can quickly turn into a more significant dental issue. In our Gretna dental office, we are equipped to treat the following dental emergencies:

  • Inflammation
  • Tooth pain
  • Jaw pain
  • Advanced gum disease
  • Tooth decay
  • Broken tooth
  • Chipped tooth
  • Knocked-out tooth
  • Broken crown or filling
  • Mouth injury

How to Handle a Broken Tooth

It’s essential that you act quickly if you have broken or damaged a tooth. The sooner we can treat you, the easier it can be to repair your tooth. Our primary goal is to save your tooth, so please call us immediately so we can do everything possible to avoid an extraction. If you are experiencing heavy bleeding, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

If you have suffered an injury or some sort of trauma, follow these steps until you can visit our dental office:

  • Call us at (504) 392-5104 to explain the situation.
  • Rinse your mouth to keep it clean.
  • Place a cold pack on your face for twenty minutes to help with pain and inflammation.
  • If you are bleeding, place gauze on that area to help reduce the bleeding.
  • Take over-the-counter pain medication.
